Sunset on the Tay

Tay Dolphins Project

The project began in April 2007 with shore-based monitoring of the dolphins as they returned from their winter travels.  Over the summer months we will be recording data on their activity within the River Tay, and with your help, also the surrounding areas.

Our volunteers will be the mainstay of the project, collecting data and recording sightings as they happen, but we would be glad to receive your sightings information. Every sighting is important if we are to build up a complete picture of the movements of the dolphins.

We would like to instigate the development of a sightings network for the River Tay in order to help protect the dolphins from any undue disturbance or harrassment. If you work or live, on or around the River Tay and would like to become part of the network, Please Contact Us

Report a Sighting

To report a sighting, please fill in the sightings form. Please try and complete all sections of the form as the more information you are able to supply, the more complete will be our understanding of the dolphins movements.

Volunteer with the Crawsnest

We would like to hear from anyone who is interested in being part of our monitoring team. Experience of identifying cetaceans would be an asset, but we are willing to give training to anyone who has a real interest in the welfare of the animals.

If you would like to know more about volunteering with the Crawsnest, please contact us and we can have a chat…
