Wish List
Our wishes are simple and hopefully to the point...
- Dolphins are wild animals.. We would like to see them remain that way...
- We would like to encourage shore-based dolphin watching, which would allow the dolphins to remain
wild and free.
- We would ask boat-owners and other water users to adhere to the cetacean-watching guidelines set
out by the WDCS (Whale and Dolphin Conservation Society).
- We would ask that no-one attempts to swim with the dolphins. They are wild animals and you risk injury
to yourself and to the dolphins. Although dolphins may appear to be friendly and harmless, this is not
always the case. They are in fact very powerful animals who could easily break human bones with a simple
flick of their tail. Please, for your own safety, and for the welfare of the animal, do not attempt to swim with
the dolphins..
- Please do not feed the dolphins. Feeding wild dolphins, as with feeding any wild animal, can cause changes
in their behaviour which can potentially be fatal to the animal. They can become dependent on this kind of
interaction and that can lead to the animal being put at risk from boat propellers and associated dangers.
It can also lead to the dolphin being less likely to hunt for food and compromise their ability to teach their
young these skills.
- We would ask members of the public to report any harrassment of the dolphins to the police.
(It is an offence to harrass or harm a marine mammal).
- We would like to instigate the development of a sightings network for the River Tay in order to help
protect the dolphins from any undue disturbance or harrassment. If you work or live, on or around the
River Tay and would like to become part of the network, Please Contact Us
