Watching over the sea

Dolphins of the River Tay

After watching the return of the bottlenose dolphins to the River Tay over the past few years, we, Crawsnest (Scotland), have decided to start a project to record, in detail, the numbers and individuals that are frequenting the area.

It is our hope that over the coming years we can build up a picture of these animals, leading to a greater understanding
of individual dolphins, their family groups, their movements around our coastline and the environment they inhabit.

Tay Dolphins Project

The project will begin in April 2007 with shore-based monitoring of the dolphins as they return from their winter travels.
Over the summer months we will be recording data on their activity within the River Tay, and with your help, also the surrounding areas.

Our volunteers will be the mainstay of the project, collecting data and recording sightings as they happen, but we would
be glad to receive your sightings information. Every sighting is important if we are to build up a complete picture of the movements of the dolphins.

Report a Sighting

To report a sighting, please fill in the sightings form. Please try and complete all sections of the form as the more information you are able to supply, the more complete will be our understanding of the dolphins movements.

How can you help?

The Crawsnest is a non-profit organisation. We do not ask for any monetary support. However, there are many ways
you can assist us with our research.
